Craigslist is an incredibly handy service for anyone who is looking to buy, sell, or trade items. However, as you can probably imagine, such a complex site can be difficult to navigate. Scout for Craigslist aims to change that with its recently updated iPhone app.
Whether you’re simply browsing local listings or you’re on the hunt for a specific item, Scout for Craigslist will help you navigate Craigslist quickly and easily while you’re away from your computer. When you first open the app, you’ll have to agree to the Craigslist terms of service and select your location. You can optionally give Scout for Craigslist permission to use your location in the background, but this isn’t required.
Once the basics are set up, Scout for Craigslist will display a few of the most popular For Sale categories. This includes vehicles, electronics, furniture, and more. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like you can customize the app’s menu to show preferred categories, but hopefully that’s a feature that can be added in the future.
To browse Craigslist with Scout for Craigslist, simply tap on your category of choice and the app will display the most recent listings. Tapping on a listing takes you to its details, including photos. There’s also a handy Contact button that allows you to email or call a seller quickly and easily.
Scout for Craigslist even allows you to create very specific filters if you’re looking for a particular item. You can also sort category listings by date, price, and relevancy. Lastly, Scout for Craigslist allows users to quickly bookmark listings, as well as save searches for quick access in the future.
The bad news about Scout for Craigslist is that it doesn’t allow you to post listings on Craigslist from the app (yet). Also, the app is supported by ads at the bottom of the screen, but they’re small enough to not interfere with the browsing experience.
Overall, Scout for Craigslist is definitely one of the best Craigslist apps I’ve seen. The interface is gorgeous, and navigation is very intuitive. As I mentioned above, the only feature I feel the app is missing is the ability to customize the main browsing page.
Personally I don’t think the inability to post ads to Craigslist from the app hurts it at all, as many people would much rather do that from a computer. Other than that, it’s truly a stellar tool for folks who enjoy browsing Craigslist on the go.
Scout for Craigslist requires iOS 7.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
