Tame Your Thought Monster is an interactive book by McClain Consulting Services which helps young children understand and process their thoughts in order to better control their feelings and emotions. Featuring many helpful elements and activities, this is a must-have app for parents of children age 8 and up.
Tame Your Thought Monster definitely isn’t your average iPhone or iPad storybook, but that’s what makes it so incredible. The app goes above and beyond to teach kids about their thoughts, feelings, and much more. Not only that, but it aims to show kids how to recognize and handle their feelings in a constructive way.
One of the first things I noticed about Tame Your Thought Monster is that it includes a very helpful introductory screen that shows children how to use all of the tools available to them. This includes drawing tools, saving their artwork, and navigating the book’s chapters. Personally I found the explanations to be simple and straightforward so kids shouldn’t encounter any issues with understanding what the book is about.
My favorite aspect of Tame Your Thought Monster is that it includes a wide variety of activities for kids to complete. The app doesn’t limit kids to certain pages for coloring, either, so they’re free to do whatever they want. This means they can interact with the story in their own creative way and get the most out of it.
To get an idea of just how much content Tame Your Thought Monster offers, there are over 35 pages that are broken up into 5 chapters. Chapters include learning about circumstances, meeting and understanding your Thought Monster, feelings, actions, and magical results. I found that the chapters flowed very well and each section progresses nicely into the next.
Perhaps the biggest fear parents have is that their child will dislike a story like Tame Your Thought Monster because it’s an educational book with lots of text and tasks. I can honestly say that it doesn’t have a “textbook” feeling at all, and pretty much all of the activities are fun.
I also want to mention that everything in Tame Your Thought Monster is narrated and audio is incredibly clear and easy to understand. Headphones are highly recommended while using this app, and the narration really adds to the accessibility of the book because kids can choose to listen and/or read along with the story.
When it comes to value, you certainly can’t beat the temporary price of free for a book that offers this much content. I do want to point out that this is a promotional price, though, and Tame Your Thought Monster will increase to $2.99 after July 31, 2015.
Overall, Tame Your Thought Monster is a must-have book for parents who are looking for a constructive and fun way to help their child understand and process their thoughts while learning valuable character traits such as kindness. I can’t recommend this book enough!
Tame Your Thought Monster is also available as a paperback book for parents and kids to work on together. Check it out on Amazon!
