If you enjoy games that require skill and precision, Balloon Sniper might be just what you’re looking for. Developed by Trevor Stevenson, this addicting arcade game for iPhone puts your timing and accuracy skills to the test.
If you’ve ever been to a fair or carnival, you’ve probably encountered a game where you have to hit balloons with darts in order to win prizes. Balloon Sniper takes that same concept and turns it into a fast-paced iPhone game.
In order to play Balloon Sniper you have to tap the screen to throw darts. Your goal is to hit as many balloons as you can without running out of darts. When you destroy a balloon, a candy bomb drops and hopefully lands in the basket, which diffuses it. Each level requires a minimum score to proceed to the next, so players have to use a combination of speed and accuracy.
As you graduate to higher levels in Balloon Sniper, the game becomes noticeably harder. Balloons move across the screen at a faster rate of speed and the minimum score required increases. It might be tempting to tap the screen like crazy to fire as many darts as you can, but I guarantee this is a strategy that simply won’t pay off.
There are a total of 100 levels (days) to survive in Balloon Sniper and each level takes roughly a minute to complete, perhaps less. This means that players will get quite a bit of play time out of the game, but hardcore players might be able to complete the game in a couple hours.
One suggestion I have for an improvement to the game is adding a variety of game modes and/or environments. For example, adding a night mode or including boosts such as rapid fire or extra ammo. This is simply to give players a bit of variety to keep them from getting bored.
Lastly, Balloon Sniper features Game Center integration and allows you to compete with other players from around the world via the leaderboard. This is always fun because it’s motivation to keep playing for the best score possible.
In terms of value, I think $0.99 is an incredibly reasonable price for a game like Balloon Sniper. It certainly isn’t an intricate game, but it’s challenging enough to keep you playing. There’s room for improvement when it comes to adding additional modes or a few extra features, but the game is very enjoyable as it is.
Balloon Sniper requires iOS 7.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus.
